In March two thousand eleven, the Austin branch is proud to welcome the founder of Dr. Sketchy’s, Molly Crabapple to Texas. To celebrate her visit and South By South West panel, we are hosting a very special drawing session which venerates one of her most powerful illustrations, the Reverse Mermaid.
The money from this kickstarter will be used to create the enormous 3D sculpture costumes worn by the models for the March Dr. Sketchy’s session. This money goes directly to the artist as a fund for supplies, creation and labor.

From a budget of zero dollars, we have realized a full rebirth of a branch that has true Rock Star potential. Our Dame Darcy show in January saw 60 people drawing at the session – and only FOUR of them had ever been to a Dr. Sketchy’s before! We are poised to take Austin by storm – but we need your support!
We use the money for the sessions to promote, pay our talented DJ, Shorty Stump (of the White Ghost Shivers) and our MC, Nathan Black and of course, to support very talented models who travel from all over just to model for Dr. Sketchy’s.
Austin Art Monkeys: if you want the branch to thrive and grow, please consider donating today to ensure that Dr. Sketchy’s will be around a year from now! The branch manager (me!) spends countless hours for each session booking models, answering emails, putting up flyers, managing social media, and renting equipment and only pays herself $10 per session.
