That’s right, it’s Halloween season and time for another Dr. Sketchys Art Extravaganza. Our lovely model this month is Kitty Korvette, a lady so sweet it makes my teeth ache. She was recently a part of Fox’s Search for the Next Elvira and she is the bass player for the band Midwest Monster.

Hey y’all! Let’s see whats hidden in those sketch books! Come browse the work of Austin’s Dr. Sketchy collective! So many talented artists have sketched so many beautiful ladies (and a few gents) in our sessions. Now is your chance to see what has come of it all. On Saturday October 6, 2007 at 7:00pm the Austin Figurative Gallery is hosting an open show for all Sketchy artists. The AFS Gallery is located at 301 Chicon. Over a dozen artists have submitted their timed sketches from our past events. Come check them out! Barter, sell, or trade sketches! Mingle with the models! Meet that hottie you have been stalking online! We’ll spring for the keg, you guys just come out and enjoy with us. Exhibit: One Night Only! So tell your friends. This is a big “thank you” to our artists and sponsors from your Dr. Sketchy Austin organizers, Miss D, Nathan and Jessica! Hope to see you there! Forgot to submit your work? This month, we are welcoming Trevor Middleton of the Yuppie Pricks to the stage! Your male model will be posing in all his sportswear and business glory and he will have his naughty secretary in tow! Bring your bonfires, your vanities and your bone-colored business cards to Elysium as we pay homage to the human form, the stock market, and yuppies. Appropriate attire required/provided. Don’t forget your thirst and your art supplies!! Expect a great soundtrack from our DJ’s as we celebrate the 80’s. Prepare yourself for some crazy contests and our ever popular prizes. Here’s the bottom line: Saturday September 15th. 5:00 - 8:00pm. Because hey, its hip to be square.

Lunch Ladies. You heard me right. Lunch Ladies. They are a conglomeration of performers, artists, professionals, and just a bunch of wacky hot chicks who like to give mad props to Lunch Ladies. I can’t emphasize enough how awesome this is going to be. Expect madcap fun and lots of jokes about “mystery meat”. The details: When: August 18th from 5:00pm - 8:00pm (NOTE: The times have moved up an hour.) You can reserve a table for $15 or a chair for $10. Drop an email to MissD@austinsketchy.com to get on the list. Also, I hate to mention it, but we are going to have to ask y’all not to take photographs at the Dr. Sketchy’s. Our models are posing for life drawing. If you want to arrange for a photography session you should talk to them directly. Looking forward to it, and see y’all on the 18th! Madames et Messieurs, This Saturday in honor of last week’s Bastille Day we will be presenting a Dr. Sketchy’s Extravaganza with a, how do you say, French Twist. We will be joined by two lovely ladies from the Jigglewatts Burlesque Troupe, Cherry Zapp and Ruby Joule. When: 6-9pm (O-la-la!) Saturday July 21th Spots are going quick so email MissD@austinsketchy.com to reserve a spot today! Seats are $10 and tables go for $15. Please be prompt, chairs fill up fast!
Since we are honoring Bastille Day, expect silly accents and some “French themed” contests. Let’s see, what are the French known for? Ah yes, toast, kissing, baguettes and fries. I’m sure we will figure something out.

Upcoming Art Openings

There are a number of Austin Dr. Sketchy artists with art openings in the next few days/weeks. Kevin Peake is opening a show this Wednesday at Amys Ice Cream on 6th from 3:30-6:30 with free ice cream. It is called Robots n’ Hot Rods, so you can’t miss it. Michael Schliefke is hosting “Taking Life Seriously” a three man show in the prestigious Bolm Studios along with Ian Shults and Dan Morrison. More details at the Taking Life Seriously website. He also has paintings up in the original Kerby Lane through the Month of July. Gallery Lombardi is hosting the Radical Nautical show with an opening on August 2nd. It features many Dr. Sketchy’s artists including Jason Chalker, Kristin Hogan and yours truly. Also a heads up, we are still on for the 21st and our models will be lovely ladies from the Jigglewatts burlesque troupe. As soon as we have the location locked down we will make a more formal announcement. In celebration of Bastille Day, the theme will be, well, let’s just say French. As a warm up I’ll be showing Scopitones at the Rio Rita on July 14th if you want to hang out and watch some awesome 60s risque French music videos.

Hey y’all, What a great time! I can’t speak for everyone, but I had a blast. Bon Bon Vivant was awesome. Thanks again to Varietease for putting us in contact with her. Yikes! Dr. Sketchy’s got double booked out of Beerland tomorrow, but never fear brave artists! We will be invading Elysium next door! Directions are simple, go to Beerland, but go in the door on the other side of the fence. We will have our usual fun and games, and I’m also proud to announce a new sponsor! The Lowbrow Emporium has given us a prize for So! Tomorrow, 5/19, at Elysium, same time, from 6 to 9. As usual the prices are $10 for a seat and $15 for a table.
