On December 2nd, we met at The Volstead to draw the fabulous Kitty. Known for her fabulous costumes, Art Monkeys delighted in drawing every last rhinestone in this genuine 1920s show girl bra and skirtlette.

Thanks so much to all who made it out! See you on January 6th!

Austin Facial Hair Club Recap
Oh my goodness was this a fun session! Not only did the models move, talk and make fun of the hosts during they poses- they made for great art fodder and our Art Monkeys were certainly up to the challenge of making the members of Austin Facial Hair Club sexy! Thanks to everyone who came out, and we hope you Facial Hair boys have fun in Norway at the World Facial Hair championships!!!

Reverse Mermaid Recap
We did it! We brought Molly Crabapple’s Reverse Mermaid to life during SXSW in Austin, Texas. Burlesque performers Crimson Skye (London) and Sassy De Lure (Seattle) modeled costume sculptures created by artist Aaron Flynn (Austin) and a pink wig by Coco Coquette. Artists at the session had the rare chance to sketch models wearing unique sculptures at the fabulous Swan Dive. Photos of the evening by Nathan Black, John Adams, and Angeliska Polacheck.
The Models:
Amelia Raley (as a Bawdy Bewigged Crabapple character!) was more mobile, and posed for the warm-up sketches.
Sassy De Lure as the Reverse Mermaid
Crimson Skye as the mermaid. Crimson flew all the way from London!
Molly Crabapple, founder of Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School, was the guest of honor.
Angeliska’s mermaid eyes!
Some amazing drawings emerged from the evening:

Apophenia Belly Dance recap
In February, we welcomed Apophenia Belly Dance troupe to the stage for a very special Dr. Sketchy’s session. Apophenia is an Art Nouveau inspired troupe, and their costumes and poses took cues from Ziegfield girls from the 1920s – lots of lace, pearls and exquisite head pieces! This was the most costumed sketch session we’ve held to date!

In between poses, we were treated to performances – including candle trays, sword dancing, and general loveliness!
Prizes from Baby Tattoo included paper doll books and  fine art with rubber duckies.

The sketches from this session were so good that Model’s Choice was a very tough decision! The winner got kisses from all three ladies. Awww!!

Thank you, Apophenia! Be sure to check out their shows around Austin.
Dr. Sketchy’s Presents Dame Darcy’s Meat Cake

Dame Darcy—the brilliant comic book artist behind Meat Cake—came to Austin with her band, Death by Doll. We hosted a very special session of Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School by outfitting our models as Meat Cake characters.
Agent Ribbons, Boosy Cray (featuring former members of the Blackstrap Molasses Family Travelin’ Medicine Show) and Death By Doll rounded out the evening with musical performances after the drawing session.

Wax Wolf and Richard Dirt got in a tiff on stage. She pulled a hatchet on him later.

Friend the Girl, Effluvia the mermaid, and Dame Darcy as supreme Unicorn.

Scampi the Selfish Shellfish (this costume & Wax Wolf’s head created by the very talented Aaron Flynn!)

This was our biggest show yet! Over 60 people were drawing, and some very incredible drawings were made this evening.

We had so much fun! Special thanks to Dame Darcy for the incredible evening and inspiration and Angeliska for the photos.

Recap: Broken Clock Cabaret
Hey folks, the last Dr. Sketchy’s was fantastic, we had brawling Vegas showgirls, a girl and her dancing bear, a double strip tease in one minute quick sketches, extortion at bear-point, a mysterious hobo, birthday cupcakes, and all the while Tom Waits crooning in the back ground.
Pictures up on the gallery.
Flyer Contest Results: First off, we got two submissions for our flyer contest, and they were both fantastic. So both Kristin Hogan of Dead Squirrel Girl Comics and Hank St. John have won! I’ll post pictures of the posters just as soon as I get a chance. The prize is two free Austin Sketchy sessions of their choosing. We also decided to keep the ‘contest’ open, but change it to if you give us a useable flyer, you get your next session free. One prize per artist.
Next Sketchy: April 21st with the Spank Dance Company.
All art… And Some Class
